about

Art Pleasley is 25-year-old songwriter/producer Angus Fitz-Bugden. Having spent the last few years skipping between Melbourne, Sydney and his native north-coast of NSW, 2014 marks the year of “getting his shit together” and polishing off his full-length debut. After knocking out a couple of singles – More of You and Letters – and the experimental EP Fast/Feast in 2013, Pleasley returns with the first cut from a 4 year genre-hopping exercise that has finally amounted to a cohesive debut; the forthcoming Memories & Plans.

Grown Ups is a song for the right person at the wrong time and with its grand piano, vintage synth exploration and intricate vocal layering, showcases the more melancholectronic aspects of his wheelhouse. That's a fancy word he says he made up. It means "digitally bummed". Yet with field-samples, a drum machine and an optimistic conviction, Grown Ups plays as the soundtrack for a winter morning spent pondering.

With the LP Memories & Plans set for release later in 2014, Grown Ups tests the waters with a newfound surety that sits you down, makes you a pot of tea and gently assures you; “Dude, you’ll be fine”.

Grown Ups. July 8th, 2014.

lyrics

Now we can look at this one of two ways
To get it together
We can try to make a run of it today
Or leave it forever
‘Cause I don’t wanna spend another week
With you hanging all around my mind
We skipped that beat
Press rewind…

Now I know why
This wouldn’t die
Between you and I

And I didn’t know what to do

It’s holding us under
(Now I know why)
But it’s how we’ll get over
(This wouldn’t die)
It’s true
(Between you and I)

That’s what grown ups do

And I know we’re good at talking
Ephemeral chatter
Still, we’ve got a bit of walking left to do
But that doesn’t matter
Because it’s only just a matter of time
‘Til we’re not gonna be on our own
Heart and mind
This feels like home

I never tried to pursue it
Even though I wanted to do it
Because I felt something to it

I’ve got plans for you

It’s holding us under
(I never tried to pursue it)
But it’s how we’ll get over
(Even though I wanted to do it)
It’s true
(Because I felt something to it)

That’s what grown ups do

I could tell that we were on the same page
The minute I met you
We only took a little time to act our age
(Time to act our age)
But honey I bet you
(Honey I bet you)
That in another couple years from now
(You need time)
It won’t keep you up at night
(And I wouldn’t dream of sleeping)
I don’t know how
(I know, I know)
But we’ll be alright
(We’ll be alright)

Now I know why
This wouldn’t die
Between you and I

Now I know what to do

It’s holding us under
(Now I know why)
But it’s how we’ll get over
(This wouldn’t die)
It’s true
(Between you and I)
That’s what grown ups do

It’s holding us under
(Never tried to pursue it)
It’s how we’ll get over
(Even though you felt like you blew it)
It’s true
(‘Cause I can talk you through it)

That’s what grown ups do
